Emergency closure details

In the event of a fire alert the fire alarm sounders will sound the evacuation.

In the event of an incident requiring students to be kept in their classrooms, the lesson change bells will be sounded on an intermittent basis – see Crisis Plan for procedures.

Fire Alarm

The fire alarm system has a mixture of automatic detection and break glass alarms, and immediately reports the signal point.

In the event of the alarm sounding, the absolute priority is to direct an orderly evacuation of the premises to the Tennis Courts (the assembly area). The key is to be able to tell the arriving fire brigade that all persons are accounted for and that the buildings are empty.

Evacuation and Reconciliation Procedures

The teacher or tutor in charge of each class of students shall, on the sounding of the alarm, immediately direct the students to form an orderly and silent evacuation by the nearest escape route out of the buildings to the tennis courts – years 7,8 & 9 on Tennis Court 1 and years 10 & 11 on Tennis Court 2 (furthest from ROSLA B). There the students will assemble in their tutor groups in line astern opposite their labels on the tennis court wire, and in alphabetical order to be checked off against their register lists. The tutor will bring the register, unless it has already been submitted to reception. Tutor lists will be brought to the assembly point by admin staff in the emergency box; Mandy Duffield will distribute Year 7,8 & 9 tutor lists and Pauline Savage will distribute year 10 & 11 lists. Tutor lists to be returned to Reina Howard on completion of the drill.

The tutor will then report all present or any unaccounted for absences to their Head of Achievement. HoAs report to Deputy Heads – NB 7,8 & 9 Court 1, and JS 10 & 11 Court 2. Cathy Botfield to take list of absent students to cross check any unaccounted absences with Deputy Heads.

All non-tutors and part time teachers report to MT.

All Associate Staff Team Leaders to take out list of their team. Emergency Box and Walkie-Talkies (in case of telephone failure) to be taken out by Reina Howard. Admin Associate team to report to Reina Howard on Court 2 – list in emergency box. All other Associate Staff to report to their Team Leader or appointed deputy outside court 1. The Team Leaders and kitchen representatives report any absences to Diane McCaldin outside court 1. Diane McCaldin to take staff sign-in sheet. Mary Heath to take list of absent staff to cross check with Diane McCaldin. Visitors report to Caroline Sage outside court 1.

NB, JS, MT with their telephones, Diane McCaldin & Caroline Sage (with visitors, medical and signing out book and late list) report to JW.

Gill Wrobel to report source of alarm from control to Carol Garland and Diane McCaldin. Caretakers to investigate source of alarm if safe to do so then report to JW.

Carol Garland (with phone, Emergency Number 308) stays in reception (unless unsafe) and keeps visitors from entering the school. The Fire Brigade to be called only on JW (or senior person present) instructions.
No person to re-enter the school until instructed by JW (or senior person present) that it is safe to do so.
