Weydon Students Climbing New Heights
Recently the Year 10 GCSE PE students attended a climbing trip in Dorking and were assessed as part of their GCSE syllabus.
They attended the High Ashurst Centre and found themselves facing some new challenges. They learnt about the benefits of different climbing techniques, how to tie in, how to set anchors and how to belay – all important skills to learn. Many of the students had to overcome their fear of heights and were delighted when they achieved a new goal.
Mr Karl Brown, Director of Sport who accompanied the students on the trip, commented: “All the students really embraced the trip. Their climbing came on in leaps and bounds, but they also had great fun together. The centre staff were really impressed with their positive attitude and enthusiasm.”
