Ex-Year 11s Receive Prizes

Historically, Weydon School has always celebrated the end of the Year 11s journey at Weydon, with a big celebration event at the school in the autumn. This involves prizes being awarded, certificates, presentations of GCSE certificates and is a great opportunity for the year group to come together one last time.

Sadly, this hasn’t happened due to the restrictions in place. However, in lieu of the usual big celebration event, Weydon School recently visited a number of their ex-Year 11 students who have been awarded prizes.

Awards are given for achievements in subjects, progress and for highest level of achievement. Rachael Morris received the Surrey Millennium Shield for the highest level of achievement in her grades. She joins a list of alumni who received this prize in recognition of the highest level of achievement in their year group. Other prizes include the Sawyer Cup for History, which Sam Hoque was delighted to receive. In addition to subject prizes, there are a group of Weydon prizes. Eve Goss received a prize for ‘Loyalty to the School’ and Ethan Payne, Head Boy for the school received a glass trophy as a thank you.

Many of the ex-students and their parents were so delighted to receive their prize and to see a member of Weydon staff.

Mr Ben Wish, Assistant Principal and Director of Year 11 commented; “During these difficult times, it’s wonderful to be able to bring a small token of positivity to these young people. They’ve had many disappointments since last March and it was a pleasure to be able to celebrate their achievements in this small way. We wish them all the best for the next part of their journey, and look forward to hearing from them all in the future on their successes and achievements.”
